Art Rotation, Spring 2010

Alana Jordan

Prayer Plant
Ink on watercolor paper, framed with recycled lumber.

I had the idea in mind that I wanted to have a plant in my room, so I went to a store to find one. There were so many different types and before long, I was ready to leave without having made a decision. So I prayed. Shortly after that prayer, I found this beautiful plant with green leaves and red highlights. I look at the name, and it's called a Prayer Plant!

Untitled
Acrylic on canvas

Landscape rendering of orchards and a wandering road/river. In mind was the idea of a journey, both in road trips I had recently taken last year and in the spiritual one that is ever present--the past is gone (bottom right), and the future is unknown (top right), but there is plenty to experience and learn in the present.
